Pregnancy Massage Brighton and Hove
Pregnancy is a time of great change – both physically and emotionally. For most of us this is a happy and exciting journey but it can also sometimes be stressful and emotional, particularly if your pregnancy is unexpected or your life is stressful and demanding. You may be pregnant for the first time in which case you will be adapting to the reality that you are going to be a mother or you may be juggling family and work commitments.
Your body will also be going through huge changes, hormonally, structurally, posturally. For some of us this may be accompanied by pain or discomfort as your body adapts to the needs of your growing baby.
How can massage help?
Massage and Shiatsu can be helpful in supporting women through their pregnancies by offering a nurturing space in which you can relax and connect with yourself and with your baby. Massage helps to reduce stress by providing a calm environment and releasing tension, and can also help with many of the common ailments related to pregnancy such as:
- Low back and hip pain
- Pelvic pain
- Swollen ankles
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Thoracic outlet syndrome
Treatments will be mostly carried out with you lying in the side position, and only in the side position from 27 weeks or if it is not comfortable for you to lie on your back. I use pillows and cushions to make sure you are completely comfortable at all times.
How often should I have massage during my pregnancy?
This will depend on how much support you feel you need throughout your pregnancy and if you have any specific symptoms you would like addressed. During your first session I will go through a full assessment with you and we can discuss a treatment plan that suits you. Massage is also beneficial during the postnatal period as you recover from the birth of your child and adapt to life with your new baby.
